Distribution mondiale
Sakai & de Saint-Laurent (1989 : 31) - Indo-ouest Pacifique. Madagascar, Glorieuses, Maurice, Australie (Murray I., détroit de Torrès), Nouvelle-Calédonie, Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée (New Britain), Mariannes (Saipan). ABRS : Australie (Queensland). Indonésie (Célèbes ; cf. commentaires). Plus Réunion, premier signalement à confirmer par l'examen de spécimens.

Milieu : Marin

Substrat/Association : Fonds meubles (sable ou vase)

Distribution verticale : Petits fonds (0-100 m) (observé à la Réunion 1-15 m)

Remarques
Selon P. Dworschak, mai 2009 "It is Neaxius (most probably) acanthus (Strahlaxiidae). That's a very common thalassinidean in the Indo-Pacific, especially in seagrass beds or nearby, catches drifting seagrass. Dominik Kneer has studied its biology in Sulawesi. Note that there is another thalassinidean which can be seen at its burrow opening showing a similar behaviour, that's Corallianassa (longiventris in the west Atlantic, coutierei in the Indo-Pacific)."
